From idea to label – here’s how every dish comes to life.

At FITT Meals, every meal on your plan is the result of a multi-step process that combines culinary creativity with nutrition expertise. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we bring new dishes to life.

  1. Idea Generation

Every new meal starts with an idea. We gather inspiration from customer feedback, trending flavours, international cuisines, and gaps in our current offering. Our goal is always to keep the menu exciting, balanced, and supportive of a variety of health goals.

  1. Ingredient Consideration

Once a concept is chosen, we look at the ingredients that will bring it to life. We prioritise whole, nutrient-dense foods and consider allergens or dietary preferences. This step helps ensure the meal will be both nutritious and suitable for a wide range of customers.

  1. Recipe Development

Our kitchen and nutrition team then collaborate to create the first version of the recipe. The kitchen focuses on flavour, preparation, and presentation, while I, as the nutrition manager, ensure the meal aligns with our internal guidelines for macronutrient balance, fibre, and overall nutritional quality.

  1. Recipe Testing and Sampling

Next, the kitchen prepares the meal exactly as it would be served. Our team samples it together, assessing taste, texture, and overall satisfaction. If something isn’t quite right, it goes back for adjustments — we only move forward when we’re confident in the dish.

  1. Nutritional Analysis and Refinement

Once the meal passes the taste test, we analyse it for calories, macronutrients, fibre, and other key metrics. If anything needs adjusting to better meet our nutrition standards, we tweak the recipe accordingly — whether that means adjusting quantities, cooking methods, or swapping ingredients.

  1. Re-Testing (If Needed)

If changes are made during the analysis phase, the updated version is tested again in the kitchen. We want to be sure every version of the recipe holds up in practice and maintains the same great taste and consistency.

  1. Photography

When the recipe is finalised, the meal is professionally photographed on site. This gives our customers an accurate preview of what to expect when their meal arrives — clean, real, and true to the product.

  1. Label Development & Barcode Creation

Next, we create the final nutrition label, including calories, macros, ingredients, and allergens. The meal is added to MyFitnessPal so customers can easily track it, and we generate a barcode to make scanning and logging effortless.

  1. Adding to the Menu

Because our menus are published at least six weeks in advance, there’s a lead time between finalising a recipe and seeing it appear on your meal plan. This gives us time to organise ingredient sourcing, prep labels, and train our kitchen team to deliver the dish to our usual standard.

From idea to execution, every FITT Meal goes through this structured process to make sure it’s balanced, consistent, and enjoyable. We take the extra steps so you can feel confident that every meal supports your goals — and tastes great too.
